Bonded Adsl
Case Studies
Case1
Company A had a 2Mbps Leased Line that was costing them £x per annum but as their use of the Internet had increased they needed more bandwidth as they had problems with web traffic disrupting critical Internet services. They had a quote to increase their Leased Line to 10 Mbps but the costs were far too expensive and their budget did not allow. As a more cost effective solution, Company A opted for a Bonded ADSL service using Limabond from Lima Networks. They installed 4 x ADSL connections from different Internet Service Providers and a UBM 400i and bonded these together with Limabond. They were now receiving download speed of approx 17 Mpbs at a cost of £x per month and they had the peace of mind that if any of their connections failed they wouldn't be without Internet connectivity as they had resilience by using different ISP's and the UBM has built in failover and failback functionality.
Case 2
Company B had a number of branch offices around
the UK and were hosting all its services at its Head Office.
They were running site to site VPN's and all the branch offices had
a single ADSL connection. The IT Manager was concerned that in the
event of the ADSL connection failing, his branch offices would
loose connectivity to Head Office and therefore staff would not be
able to do their job and ultimately the business would loose money
and customers. As they were using VoIP this was a big concern as
they would not be able to make or receive calls either.
Company B looked at an MPLS network but this was not cost
effective and they did not want to be tied into a lengthy
contract. They decided to install another ADSL at each branch
along with a UBM 200i or UBM 400i which has integrated ADSL routers
which was a key selling point as they were trying to cut down the
amount of kit they had at each site for a number of reasons
including power consumption, configuration reasons and points of
failure. At the Head Office they installed the software
version of the UBM, the UBM 1500v as they were already using
virtualisation and had space available on their VM Ware server.
The end result was that Company B had now a more
resilient Virtual Private Network at a lower cost to comparable
solutions. It was also much easier to deploy. As they
had installed the UBM 400i at a number of sites this allowed for
scalability as they had plans for future growth.
